What We Believe
Fifth Avenue Chapel is an evangelical, Protestant church. More specifically, these are our beliefs:
AN OVERVIEW
We Believe the Bible is the Word of God
Although the words of the Bible were written down by men, we believe that the human authors were “carried along” by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21). The result is that we have the very words of God in our possession, to tell us all we need to know about God, salvation, and the Christian life.
We Believe Men and Women Need Salvation
The Bible tells us that all men and women are polluted by sin, and that sin separates us from God both now and in the future (Romans 3:23). In order to have fellowship with God our sin must be dealt with – but we all know by experience that we cannot live perfect lives no matter how hard we try.
We Believe Jesus Christ Has Provided Salvation
The Bible tells us that God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die for us (John 3:16). He gave up His life on the cross, in our place, to pay the penalty for all our sins. It is not enough just to know this. Each individual must knowingly turn away from sin and accept the free gift of salvation.
We Believe the Way We Live is Important
The Bible tells us that God is concerned about the way we live (1 Peter 4:2). Our words, our actions, our attitudes, even our thoughts, are all important to Him and we should do our best to live as Jesus Christ lived.
